Lakeside Retreat

Inspired by the lifestyle of the client, their home, and the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan, Prairie Blue created a modern lake house retreat to elevate the clients everyday experience of their home and property.

The project wish list included a pool, spa, multiple outdoor entertainment spaces, a pergola, an outdoor kitchen and two fire features.

Due to the proximity to the bluff, the project required considerable infrastructure. Prairie Blue collaborated with civil engineers to develop a site grading and drainage solution and structural engineers to ensure the stability of the retaining walls, terraces, and pool.

This lake retreat provides a place for our clients to enjoy peace and tranquility with family and friends for long stretches of the summer or weekend escapes.

Key Design Features

Inspired by the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan.

A louvered Ipe pergola provides a comfortable setting for outdoor dining and entertainment, including an outdoor kitchen and fireplace.

The property was terraced to create a series of spaces from which to appreciate Lake Michigan.

The infinity pool overflows to a lower terrace nestled into the bluff. A custom Ipe bench and fire table provide the perfect place to watch the the sun set over the lake.

Ipe decking, weathered gray, and relaxed plantings create a landscape that feels easy and carefree. The existing path to the beach was restored and native vegetation was established along the bluff.

Prairie Blue completely transformed the way we experience our home; the completion of the project has truly enriched our time with family and friends. Better yet, from design to implementation, communication was great and expectations were not only met, but exceeded.
